Origins of Solar Power Energy

Solar power energy simply is the conversion of sunlight into electricity. It can be done directly either by use of Photovoltaic (PV) or indirectly by the concentrated solar power (CSP). The Photovoltaic energy is created when sunlight protons hits a solar panel thereby producing electric currents. The concentrated power (also known as Thermal energy) on the other hand, is harnessed directly from the heat that sun emits. This sun energy is also popularly referred to as "green energy" owing to the fact that it is propelled by nature and environment. It is also the safest so far and truly renewable resource, but still less popular solar technology in some places.
Leonardo Di Vinci, in the 15th century, first brains in designing an industrial use from the sun. Di Vinci went on to design a system to heat water by concave mirrors. In 1954 by Bell Laboratories, photovoltaic properties of certain silicones were discovered. The first functional photovoltaic panels were then developed for use on satellites. Later, solar power energy was first used in the Australia. Since then, over 60,000 installations have been successfully made.
Albert Einstein is the famous renowned scientist who experimented on photoelectric effect. He won the 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics for his outstanding contributions in solar energy and photovoltaic. By the 1950s the first true solar panels were at work. In addition, Bell Laboratories discovered photovoltaic properties of certain silicones in 1954. A very notable solar energy fact is that all TV and communications satellites are also powered by solar energy through use of photovoltaic cells.
Solar power energy is usually measured in kilowatt-hour. Simply put, 1 kilowatt = 1000 watts. Moreover, it is estimated that about 1366 watts of direct solar radiation per square meter reaches the earth's atmosphere and, about 1000 watts per square meter reaches the ground per hour. This is a quite fascinating fact and a lot of energy, to be precise. Another example of the solar energy fact is that on average, a normal household would use 860 kilowatt per month.
This energy comes into effect when light from the solar energy systems such as solar panels, is converted to heat. The sun rays can however be hindered when there is an obstruction from wind, cloud and pollution. It can be used for different purposes such as heating water, providing lighting for homes, powering some engines as well as for cooking. Solar power energy is also free but installing it costs highly. In facilitating this, one would require buying solar energy systems, which mainly comprises of; inverter, solar panels, a battery, a charge controller, wiring and support structure.
In the last few years solar energy costs have headed down, and looks to become affordable for everyone. One of the most popular ways in recent years to curb this high cost has been DIY solar and wind energy guides and the success has been enormous with many thousands saving over 50% or more on energy costs, or getting completely off the grid for good.
Nonetheless, solar technology has greatly advanced. In lieu of this, a world record was placed in its favor around 1990 when a solar powered aircraft flew about 4060 km across the USA, with no fuel. Similarly, solar energy systems like the powered motor racers have been in use since 1985. In fact, in promoting this initiative, World Solar Challenge motor race is held on a yearly basis - both in Australia and USA. At these races, it is reported that the solar technology powered motors exceed 90 mph!
