The Disadvantages of Solar Energy for Kids

The Sun's light is a renewable and free source of energy, and people use solar panels to capture it and heat their homes or power various appliances.
But is the installation of solar panels advisable for a home that hosts many children? Of course, this aspect is debatable.
The Main Disadvantage of Solar Energy for a Family with Many Children
The main aspect to be taken into consideration is the average energy consumption that you need. Families with a lot of members tend to use more home appliances. This is particularly the case when the children are at their infant stage. They need to be bathed many times a day and this means that you will use hot water really often. This can be a problem when you rely solely on your solar electricity system, because it can only supply a limited amount of energy to heat that water.
Also, kids nowadays have a lot of toys and gadgets that consume quite a large amount of energy on a daily basis. Thus, a family with many kids will need more solar panels than usual, in order to provide the needed energy.
Teaching the Kids about Solar Energy
As parents, we need to teach our children about the importance of solar power. Educating them on this aspect is particularly important if you have a home that is powered with the help of solar panels. Children should be taught about both advantages and disadvantages of solar energy. Thus, they will grow with a solid understanding on how to protect the environment, in order to ensure sustainable ecological programs for future generations.
The first notions that kids should learn about solar panels are the basic ones. It would be useful to explain them that silicon is the basic component of these panels. The sun rays are the ones that activate the tiny silicon particles and they act as electricity conductors.
Next, children should learn more about the benefits of solar power. Tell them that the sun is a really big star that gives us light and heat. Without its presence, there would be no life on Earth. People have worshiped Sun in ancient times and now they understand that they can also use it to power their homes. Tell your child that the sun's light can only be turned into usable energy with the help of solar panels.
Children should also be aware of the disadvantages of solar panels. For instance, they should be taught that solar panels cannot provide any electricity if the sky is clouded. This is because they need to be "touched" by direct sunlight in order to harvest the energy.
Regardless of the age of your child, it is never too late to raise their awareness on the advantages and disadvantages of solar power. After all, children are the future of this planet.
