Solar Energy - The Clean Option to Electricity Generation

The technology revolution that has overtaken the world in the last two or three decades is just breathtaking. You can notice advances in the quality of life that everybody is enjoying. These advances range from your cellular phone to the seven-seater vehicle in your neighbor's garage.
It is nice to have all these products within your reach. But these advances came with a price. A heavy price. To produce all the products that we are enjoying in life we should have more factories working, which in turn means more fuel consumed and more pollution in our climate.
Amid this gloomy atmosphere you might ask: what can be done? How can we benefit of all these advances without the side effects? Luckily enough there is something that every individual among us can do. This solution is embedded in the way that we produce our energy, electric energy that is. Electric energy generation is known to be a huge contributor to the worsening of the climate around us.
The ordinary combustion that is being used spills a lot of toxins in the air and depletes the natural resources that are available on this planet. This fact has given rise to a clean source of energy, solar energy.
While the first discovery of solar energy goes back to 1818, it was till the 50s of the past century that the solar energy industry saw light. In early 1950's three Americans working on small transistors found that if you build transistors in a certain way, using silicon, you would have an effective solar cell, or PV cell.
Although this was an important discovery but it did not have the impact that it deserves. When first introduced, the PV cells were very expensive and thus nobody was interested in using them as a source of energy.
What really ignited the use of solar energy was the evolution of the satellite industry. If it were not for the satellite industry the PV cell would not have taken off. Satellites had no other opportunities for fuel sources up in space but PV cells. Their use of PV cells then made the solar cell industry a sustainable one.
The global solar cell industry is now growing by 25% per year. This industry is not limited to the industrial usage. Many households are using this kind of electric generation.
Installing a solar system at your house is not a difficult or expensive task. Previously the only way to install a solar system was to purchase the system from a company and to ask one of the professionals to install the system.
While this option is still available, the latest advances in technology have provided a do-it-yourself option. Through this option the user can build and install his own solar system with a fraction of the cost therefore eliminating the cost barrier. The conversion of fossil fuels to solar energy has been enforced by modern technology, which has given us further possibilities to store and use renewable energy.
There are many advantages of solar energy with which fossil fuels just cannot compete. Clean environment and cost saving are the most obvious but are not the only advantages. So the future for solar cell use appears bright.
