Is It Worth It to Switch to Solar Power?

With the way utility bills continue to increase for everyone, some of us are starting to wonder if there are any green energy solutions we could use to not only help the environment, but to save some money! And when we think green energy, a lot of us instantly picture a solar panel in our head. Harnessing the energy from the sun has been an idea that dates back hundreds, if not thousands, of years. We have always known there was enough energy being emitted from the sun, but harnessing and converting that power was the problem. Home Power Magazine was quoted in one issue about solar energy, stating "The amount of sunshine energy that hits the surface of the Earth every minute is greater than the total amount of energy that the world's human population consumes in a year!". When you hear that, you realize the answer is in solar energy.
A lot of us assume that, even though there are great benefits of solar energy, it's not feasible because of the initial costs to get everything up and running. I used to think the same thing myself, but in today's time that is simply NOT true. There are many different options to choose when deciding to go solar and cost effective is one of them. There are video lessons online that show you everything you need to do to build your own solar panel at home. Though this route requires a bit more work, you also save a ton of money this way. There are companies around now, such as Westinghouse, that offers do-it-yourself home solar panel kits. They simply send you the mounts and the solar panels that you need, along with all the wiring. You take the instructions given to you and you mount the solar panels across all the available space on your roof. Installing the solar panels isn't too challenging of a task, though it can be time consuming. The cost, however, usually starts around $5000 for a SMALL kit. If you're looking to have enough panels to power your entire home, you could easily be looking at over $10,000.
Since this cost isn't feasible for the average person out there, I personally recommend learning how to build your own solar panel. You don't have to be an engineer or a scientist, it's not that difficult. If you can simply follow instructions on a video, you can surely do it.
Gary Taylors has been researching solar energy for YEARS - and you can find out what he's learned by visiting Find Green Energy
